There were 5 families at our hotel apartments that met up and went to church. The area where churches are located is about 5 minutes from our hotel. So we all jumped in taxi’s and headed over! After walking a little bit (one driver had no idea where to go and we all followed his lead – bad idea!) and sweating more than we wanted we found the church. It was the Evangelicial Community Chruch. We even checked the kids in for their 5/6 yr old class. They walked right in and there was no issue of cryin to hesitation. It helped they had their friend, Tamira, to go with. Church was good – not GrandParkway – but it was good. Familiar songs and a good sermon that was bible based. Pastor Cam preached from Psalms 103. He used the analogy of a woven carpet. He compared the dark and light colors of a nice woven carpet – like you can find the carpet souks here in Abu Dhabi – and how we are like the dark threads and God is the bright colored threads. How humans are sinful and have their own interests and plans and yet God still loves us and chooses to stand by us. So when we see carpets now – we’ll always be reminded of that message. It was interesting because he was talking about God’s love – the hebrew word HESED. I found this even more engaging to hear the pastor talk about hesed because Neil has mentioned this same work multiple times in the last few years. So it was like being at home! So it was great to worship! And there were quite a few other teachers there too! Several we met before leaving Houston. And we even signed up for a function there at the end of the month. They are cooking dinner for all the new teachers to Abu Dhabi. It’ll give us a chance to sit back, relax, and get to know more teachers.
Made another trip to LuLu to get some groceries for the next couple of days. Even picked up some different items to try out! Then after lunch – SCHOOL TIME! We did some writing, math, and reading.
Tonight we’re having a familiar meal – tacos! And just catching up on Big Brother and hanging out. Tomorrow we’re going to tour the Grand Mosque. They say it’s amazing to see the building with all the gold!
Stay Tuned….
