Today was a new day and new expereinces here in the UAE! We were awaken by Cole hurling in our bathroom at 1:15 in the morning. He couldn't use his bathroom since they're fixing some major leak in there. So he hurried to ours and we were soooo thankful that every time he had to vomit, he made it to the toilet! He woke up at 1:15ish, 3:15ish, 5;00, and then once we woke up him up so I could drop off Jennifer and Caralyn he threw up again. And during the night when he was finished I'd wipe his face and he would rush back to his room and climb back into bed like nothing happened!
So since I only teach 3 periods on Sunday, I decided to stay home with him today. And the way it works here is, if you are too sick to stay home or have kids that are so sick you have to stay with them you have to have a doctors note, and of course you have to have stamps on EVERYTHING here! So you take it to a hospital and get it stamped. I heard from several others that going to the hospital is easier than any standard doctor. So we went to Tawam Hospital that is at our round-about and boy was it quick! And the facility was very nice - very American like. Just like home!
And since we've not finished the process for the kids' residency visas yet, we do not have an insurance card on them. So they reimburse us for expenses we incur while we're completing that process. So we go to the hospital, check in, go right back to a room and the doctor comes in within 5 minutes or so. Very quick! Then they give Cole a shot to help the vomitting and nausea. Cole still asks, "Daddy - why did they have to give me the shot in my butt?" He even told the neighbor's boys when they came to invite Cole over to play. Then we waited about 10 minutes and started giving Cole some fluids, like they do typically via IV, and he keeps them down. So off we go. We were in and out within 45 minutes to an hour. And since we did the "self pay" we had to pay for the visit. At home - with insurance - hospital visits are still outrageous. Deductibles and wait times. Here is cost us $60 USD. And that included some replacement fluid type meds too. So it's nice to be so close to a hospital that seems to nice and clean and feel taken care of! Then we came home to nap!
I was very curious to see how Caralyn's day was since her brother was not at school - even though they are in different classes I am pretty sure they sit together - or near each other - at lunch. When we left the house to pick up Jennifer, Cole said he couldn't wait to sit next to Caralyn in the car! Too cute! Then when we pick up the kids, Caralyn just waves at Cole when she sees him in the car. And they chat with each other on the way home - again - TOO CUTE! Then Cole was falling alseep so I had him lay down and take a quick nap. Caralyn couldn't wait to go and wake him up! She knelt beside him and was telling him about some of his friends that asked her where he was since they missed him. Then we get downstairs and Caralyn goes and gets him something to drink.
They really do love each other! It's adorable! Tomorrow though - they'll be back at the love/hate relationship! Guess that is what siblings do!
The pediatric rooms - just like an American hospital! |
Talk about pitiful! His poor tummy! |
After a shot of something for the nausea/stomach issue he laid his head down for about 10 minutes and then his tummy didn't hurt anymore and he was ready to go back home. |
Cole got a kick out of using a syringe to drink this liquid to see if he was able to keep anything down - which he kept it all down! |
This place was hopping once we were leaving around 8am. |
